A Fantabulous New Attraction at Alton Towers

2006 sees the opening at Alton Towers of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory™: The Ride - a fantastical, multi-sensory £8 million indoor ride which takes families on an unforgettable adventure into the heart of the wondrous world of Willy Wonka and his great Chocolate Factory.

The ride, which takes its inspiration from Roald Dahl's book and Quentin Blake's unique illustrations, is situated behind the impressive towers in the centre of the beautifully landscaped park. The boat ride system, delivered by MACK Rides, took already guests “Around the World” in 1981 and became “Toyland Tours” in 1994. Now the building is re-themed a third time - and this time truly big style! Alton Towers announced that ground-breaking special effects on a scale never seen before seen at a theme park will be used. The attraction will become the only place in the world where everyone can experience Charlie Bucket's amazing journey; where guests will feel, smell and see what happened to Charlie and his spoilt companions - Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, and Mike Teavee. The story is extremely popular in Great Britain and was hyped all over the World with last years’ release of the Warner Bros. successful movie carrying the same name and featuring Johnny Depp.

When the boat rides stops

A true specialty of the new attraction will be the fact that it will not only be a simple re-decoration of the existing facility. MACK Rides provided a second station for the boat ride - so visitors will be surprised having to leave the boat ride INSIDE the attraction to continue with Charlie on foot.

Charlie's journey ends with a trip in the Great Glass Elevator - a world first, multi-sensory ride, which uses revolutionary, military-quality simulator technology that will whizz guests on a virtual 3-D tour through the heart of the Factory and beyond! This finale, will have everyone screaming for more, as the Elevator lurches, shudders, tilts and eventually explodes through the factory roof, all the time offering a 360 degree projection panorama of sights to its terrified passengers!

This new attractions promises to be a true family sensation and shows once again the importance of targeting the loyal family audience.
