With Dønnervind, Mack Rides introduces a groundbreaking new attraction concept to the global leisure market. Installed at Freizeitpark Plohn, the world’s first multi launch water coaster combines the power of modern propulsion technology with the refreshing dynamics of a water ride: creating a hybrid experience that has not existed in this form before.
At the heart of the attraction lies a completely new approach to water coaster design. Instead of relying on a traditional lift system, Dønnervind uses multiple Linear Induction Motor launches to accelerate the boats repeatedly during the ride even directly from water sections. This results in a fluid, fast-paced ride profile with alternating bursts of speed, dynamic curves, and splash-filled interactions that continuously redefine the guest experience.
Despite its innovative character, the attraction remains highly accessible. With a track length of 535 meters, a height of 10 meters, and a top speed of 53 km/h, the ride delivers exciting yet family-friendly dynamics.
Thematically, Dønnervind draws inspiration from Nordic mythology, embedding guests in a story-driven Viking environment that enhances immersion from the very first moment. Positioned within a newly developed park area, the attraction serves as the centerpiece of Freizeitpark Plohn’s anniversary investment of approximately €11.5 million. Careful integration into the natural landscape, combined with detailed theming elements, ensures a cohesive guest journey.
“Dønnervind is a clear example of how innovation can redefine established ride categories,” said Thorsten Koebele, Chief Officer Sales & Marketing of Mack Rides at the opening. “By merging launch coaster technology with water-based elements, we have created a new type of attraction that appeals to a broad audience while delivering a distinctive and memorable ride experience.”
With this project, Freizeitpark Plohn reinforces its position as an attractive destination for families, while Mack Rides once again demonstrates its ability to develop forward-looking attractions that set international benchmarks in the industry.
